Best Time to Visit
Spring (March to May): Pleasant weather with clear views of the Himalayas. Rhododendrons are in full bloom, making it a picturesque time to travel.
Autumn (October to December): Crisp, clear skies after the monsoon, offering the best mountain views. Ideal for trekking and photography.
Monsoon season (June to September): Generally avoided due to heavy rainfall and potential landslides.
Getting There Safely
By Air: The nearest major airport is Bagdogra (IXB) in West Bengal. From there, it's a 4-5 hour scenic drive to Gangtok. Pakyong Airport (PYG) in Sikkim has limited connectivity.
By Road: Roads from Siliguri/Bagdogra are the primary entry point. Always travel during the day and hire experienced local drivers who are familiar with mountain terrain. Check road conditions before travel, especially during monsoon.
Permits: An Inner Line Permit (ILP) is required for most international tourists. Ensure you have all necessary documents ready.
